Growing a Tree from Seed?

June 5th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »
Birds have plopped liquid amber (I think) seeds into a couple of plant pots on our patio. One plant has started growing pretty nicely, and there's a second, smaller one - I had to rescue that one and give it a pot, as DH pulled it out of the pot it was in and threw it away.

Does anyone have any experience growing baby trees? I'll have to look on the internet and see what I should do with them.

I have this fantasy of letting them get a few feet tall and then asking our condo complex gardeners to plant them on the property someplace.

I have grown our native Kowhai tree from seed and they do very well.
Not to big a pot to start with and repot them again a lttle later into a big one.
Our soil is very fertile and if I let every tree seed that comes up grow
We would be living in the middle of a forest.
I some times pot them and give them as gifts.
